Business Loan Preparation
& Consulting Services

Preparing for a business loan involves more than just filling out an application.

We help business owners understand what lenders look for in a loan application and prepare the documents and information lenders expect to see.

Our consulting work helps business owners understand their loan readiness, prepare financial information and business plans, organize their application, and evaluate financing options so they can approach lenders with clarity, confidence, and fewer surprises.

How We Help Business Owners Prepare for Loan Financing:

Every business owner's situation is different. After learning about your business and financing goals, we typically help with one or more of the areas below.

Not Sure Where to Start?

If you’re not sure which area (below) applies to your situation, that’s completely normal.

Most clients begin with a short conversation where we learn about their business, financing goals, and where they may need the most help.

From there, we can recommend next steps and, if helpful, assist with the specific areas below.

Our Consulting Services

Common areas where business owners ask for help when preparing for a business loan:

Loan Readiness & Application Strength

Understand how lenders will evaluate your business and identify issues that could affect your chances of approval before you apply.

Before approaching lenders, it’s important to understand how your business will look from their perspective. We help business owners assess loan readiness, identify potential obstacles, and determine which types of financing are most realistic for their situation.

Examples include:

  • Loan readiness assessments
  • Choosing the right loan & lender
  • Loan "what if" analysis
  • Market research

Preparing Your Financials for Lenders

Organize and present your financial information so lenders can clearly understand your business and your ability to repay the loan.

Financial information plays a central role in how lenders evaluate a loan request. We help business owners prepare, review, and strengthen the financial documents lenders rely on when making lending decisions.

Examples include:

  • Financial statement review
  • Financial projections
  • Business financial health checkup

Business Plans for Loan Applications

Develop a lender-focused business plan that clearly explains your business model, financial assumptions, and use of funds.

Many loan applications — especially for SBA loans or new businesses — require a clear, well-structured business plan. We help business owners prepare plans that explain their business, strategy, and repayment path in a way lenders understand.

Examples include:

  • Business plan guidance & review
  • Business plan consulting (we create your plan)

Preparing & Submitting Your Loan Application

Organize the documents, information, and supporting materials lenders expect when reviewing a loan request.

A strong loan application requires more than filling out forms. We help borrowers organize documentation, prepare supporting information, and anticipate the questions lenders and underwriters often ask during the review process.

Examples include:

  • Application form guidance
  • Lender question preparation
  • Responding to underwriter requests

Evaluating Loan Options

Review loan terms, repayment structure, and lender expectations before deciding whether to accept an offer.

When lenders present financing offers, borrowers often want help understanding the terms and evaluating whether the loan is a good fit for their business and long-term plans.

Examples include:

  • Term sheet review (evaluating loan offers)
  • Scenario analysis
  • Loan risk analysis

What Clients Say

"The team at Jay Street Group were EXCELLENT to work with. They were always prompt in responding, which made a world of difference to me! They understood my business model and answered my questions about my financials through the whole process.

I gained so much knowledge working with them that will help me with my start-up. They were also very knowledgeable about what banks are looking for to approve funding.

One thing that was incredibly helpful was preparing me for underwriters' questions during the loan application. They helped me to really know how to navigate my financial projections and be confident for key conversations with the bankers and underwriters.

I was definitely put at ease with their support and guidance. They created my business planIt's thorough and makes sense. And most importantly, my loan was approved."

"I needed the funds to open my brick-and-mortar store and planned to apply for an SBA loan. I hired Dan and his team to create my business plan.

They were always transparent and honest with me from the very beginning. I presented my business plan and financial projections to a landlord and was offered a retail space in the busiest plaza in town.

Additionally, I secured my small business loan!

Dan's team helped me understand my company’s finances and gave me the crash course I needed!"

"I have had the pleasure of working closely with Dan at Jay Street Group, LLC.

Dan added a wide range of knowledge, expertise, and organization to my current [business] project. He is genuinely kind and interested in helping you achieve your goals, he listens to your requests and efficiently translates them into actionable financial plans.

But possibly the most helpful aspect of our interaction was the brainstorming sessions where we worked on the project and its numbers together. I appreciate Dan's assistance and recommend his services."

What It’s Like to Work With Us

Most clients begin with a brief conversation where we learn about their business, financing goals, and where they may need the most help.

From there, we typically recommend one or two specific areas where we can help strengthen their loan preparation — whether that involves reviewing financial information, preparing a business plan, organizing a loan application, or evaluating financing options.

Our role is not to “sell” a particular loan or lender, but to help business owners understand how lenders will evaluate their application, prepare the information lenders expect to see, and choose financing that's a good fit.

The goal is simple: to help you approach lenders with a clear, well-prepared application and a realistic understanding of how the process works.

If you’re unsure where to start, we’re happy to talk through your situation and help you determine the most sensible next step.

Our Team

When you work with Jay Street Group, you’re working with professionals who have seen small business lending from multiple sides of the table — as lenders, advisors, and business owners ourselves.

Our role is to help you prepare for the scrutiny, questions, and decisions that determine whether a loan moves forward.

Josh Bohlke

Head of Lending Advisory & Business Plan Consulting

Josh is the person most clients speak with during their initial consultation and the leader of our lending advisory and business plan consulting work.

He is a former business loan officer and underwriter, as well as a CFO, consultant, and business owner with more than 20 years of experience advising small businesses. Josh holds an MBA from Washington State University.

His background combines underwriting judgment with real-world business experience — allowing him to give practical, straightforward guidance on loan readiness, financial preparation, and the steps needed to move toward funding.

Amber Hansen

Senior Accounting & Business Planning Advisor

Amber works closely with Josh and our clients throughout the financial preparation and business planning process.

She is an experienced accountant and CFO with more than 20 years of experience across multiple industries, and has also owned and operated businesses herself — including part ownership in a construction company and ownership of a retail tanning salon. Amber holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Arkansas State University.

Amber helps clients organize their financial information, strengthen the financial story behind their business, and prepare documentation that lenders expect to see.

Dan Domino

Founder and Managing Director, Jay Street Group

Dan founded Jay Street Group to bring clarity, honesty, and practical financial thinking to the small business funding process.

Over the past 25 years, he has worked in financial markets at Citigroup and Deutsche Bank, advised business owners and investors across industries, and built and operated businesses himself. Dan holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.

While Josh and Amber lead the hands-on advisory work with clients, Dan sets the direction and philosophy of the firm and leads our client education efforts, including business loan workshops and coaching programs.

His focus is helping business owners better understand the funding process so they can avoid costly mistakes and pursue financing options that support long-term growth.
